Common questions
Who is Bilbx built for?
Anyone who keeps receipts for tax or proof of purchase in Australia, the UK or the US: sole traders, freelancers and the self-employed, employees claiming work-related deductions, and people who spend or file in more than one country.
Can Bilbx split a receipt between business and personal use?
Yes, with Premium. Claim only some of the items on a receipt, claim a set amount of it, or set a standing business-use percentage for a category, such as 60% of every phone bill. You can note the basis for the percentage: a logbook, a usage diary or floor area.
How does Bilbx help with US Schedule C?
With Premium, it sorts expenses into Schedule C categories (Line 8 Advertising, Line 18 Office expense, Line 22 Supplies, Line 24a Travel, Line 24b Meals and others), splits business and personal use, and exports category totals as a CSV for your tax software or CPA. It does not file the return, and it does not apply the 50% meals limit or depreciation elections for you.
Does Bilbx work with foreign currencies?
Yes. A foreign receipt is converted to your account's currency at the exchange rate for the purchase date, and the printed amount is kept alongside. Foreign tax, such as overseas VAT, is kept out of your domestic tax claims.
Do the ATO, HMRC and the IRS accept photos of receipts?
Generally, yes. All three accept clear digital copies of receipts as records, provided they show who you paid, how much, when, and what for. The IRS rules are in Rev. Proc. 97-22.
How does Bilbx track warranties and returns?
Record a receipt's return window or warranty period and Bilbx reminds you before it ends, so the receipt is ready if you need to make a claim.
Can I use Bilbx without an account?
Yes, for 50 scans on the mobile app, with no email address needed. Guest receipts are kept for 30 days; a free account keeps them and gives you 500 scans a month.
